(ITSP) and supplier partners. As a leading provider of SIP-based devices, New Rock is committed to providing highly reliable and cost-effective converged communications solutions.

History

The company was founded by Bing Yang and Hua Lin in 2002. Prior to that, Bing Yan was CEO and Hua Lin was VP of Advanced Technology at Convergent Networks, a Massachusetts based MGCP-based trunk and SS-7 signaling gateway. Inspired by the emergence of SIP technology and its enormous potential to significantly reduce telephony costs in developing countries, they left Convergent Networks and incorporated New Rock Technologies, Inc. in the United States (Delaware). They then joined several other veterans specializing in telecommunications hardware and software development. Their first 48-port MX100-AG product was designed and developed from the ground up in nine months.

Early years

In 2003, the company relocated its core business to Shanghai, opening exclusively its own venture, Shanghai New Rock Technologies, Inc. With a core team of six from the US and a few local employees, New Rock Shanghai began product development, marketing and sales in a 260 square foot office near downtown Shanghai. When the MX100-AG was officially released to the market at the end of 2003, it was one of the first SIP-based VoIP gateways in China. The first notable sale was the deal of seven MX100-AG gateways to a local bank in a small town 400 miles from Shanghai.
In 2004, IDG Capital Partners, a venture capital firm specializing in investments in China, invested $ 1,500,000, becoming the company's sole outside investor.
From 2004 to 2007, a vigorous startup team developed MX-series SIP and MGCP VoIP gateways supporting a wide range of FXS and FXO configurations as well as ISDN over T1 / E1 configurations. {{1} } Due to unfavorable regulatory requirements and poor IP network infrastructure, the VoIP market in China developed slowly in the early years of 2000, and the company's sales went through an extremely difficult period in 2003 and 2008.
Bing Yang left the company to join to Cisco in 2007 and in Hua Lin became CEO.

Become the leading VoIP provider in China

New Rock Technologies

The company has benefited greatly from the rapid growth of the enterprise VoIP market in China since the late 2000s. Due to its reputation for high quality and cost-effectiveness, the company's VoIP gateway products have been selected for OEM or resale by partners from leading telecommunications service providers in China and abroad. Mass production has further helped to lower product costs and improve quality. In the meantime, through endless compatibility tests, the products have improved compatibility with the IMS-based soft-core switch and third-party SIP servers such as Microsoft Lync, Cisco CallManager, Broadsoft, Asterisk, and FreeSWITCH.
Since 2008, the company has begun to expand its product line to IP-PBX and converged corporate communications servers integrated with WiFi / 3G / 4G routers, SIP servers and FXS / FXO gateways targeted at SMEs (small and medium-sized enterprises ) market.

As of 2015, New Rock has manufactured and shipped over 400,000 VoIP devices worldwide.
